Calcium Aluminate Cement (refractory cement) 25kg

Calcium aluminate cement is very popular choice for making up your own refractory castable mix's and mortars for high temperature applications. 

This cement can be blended with different aggregates to achieve a very strong final material capable of withstanding the high temperatures generated by fires (just remember your aggregate needs to be bale to cope with the heat as well!)

Unlike ordinary cement, which takes 28 days to reach full strength, this cement will gain most of its strength in the first 24-48 hours.  This means ovens and fires can be fired up a lot sooner.  You still need to be careful to heat it slowly as there will be residual water that needs to be dried off.  

For pizza oven domes it is typically used in a 1-4 mix ratio (1 part cement to 4 parts aggregate).  We also recommend keeping aggregate size small - less than 4mm.  The aggregate should also have a good mix of particle sizes (from larger to smaller) to ensure it is nice and compact.

For fire places you can cast your own pieces to shape.

The cement can handle temperatures up to a maximum of 1400 degrees C but a sensible operating temperature is 1200 degrees C. 

When mixing the water content should be kept to a bare minimum.  The amount of water added will vary according to the amount of water in the aggregate.  

Note:  It can be a bit lumpy when it comes out of the pack.  This is just the way the product is.  Break down any lumps larger than 15mm before mixing.  This can be done by crushing in you hands with gloves on (and a mask!).
