This is a comprehensive concrete block stand pack suitable for one of our 950mm internal diameter oven kits.  It has a front return (i.e. the blocks partially come across the front which provides more protection for the storage area underneath) and the back section is closed off.

We have worked hard with local engineers to come up with a stand design that is strong, DIY friendly,  economic and smart looking.

To check out the build summary video click here (its for the 800 block stand but the principles are the same).

The key to these kits is that they are specifically engineered to require no mortar to be placed between the concrete blocks. This makes construction significantly easier as the blocks are simple stacked in place. Too easy!

The stand is built in three steps. The foundation slab, the block walls (which get filled with concrete), then the top slab (which you build the oven on).

The kits come with very detailed instructions that include everything from digging and creating the foundations, steel laying pattern, concrete mixing ratios, layer by layer block laying pattern and materials configuration to box in the top slab.  There are plenty of illustrations and photos.  Like our oven packs they are designed for those who have never done this sort of work before.

The components of the kit are all pre cut and ready to go.  This means you don't require special bending and cutting tools, you don't have any wasted materials and you know everything will work together.

It is engineer certified for the whole of the North Island (even the areas that wobble a bit).

The concrete block pack includes the following:

  • The required concrete blocks (73)
  • Pre cut reinforcing steel mesh for the base slab and top slab
  • 12mm reinforcing steel for vertical reinforcing and horizontal reinforcing - all pre cut and bent
  • Internal aluminium support bars for the top slab, all pre cut to size
  • Heavy duty fibre cement board which sits on top of the internal aluminium supports to hold the top concrete slab while it cures
  • Front aluminium bar to box in the front of the top concrete slab where it spans between blocks
  • Concrete screw fixings supplied with masonry drill bits (fasteners put in the a hex bit or standard socket)
  • 115mm Diamond cutting wheel for cutting the blocks (this is used on a grinder).  There isn't too much cutting required and the blocks are easy to cut.
  • Bag of mortar to fix up any 'idiosyncrasies' in the block work stacking
  • Steel wire ties (you use pliers to twist the wire which holds the steel together)
  • Lifting chairs to suspend the steel on the bottom slab while you pour concrete

What you will need to get is:

  • The wooden boxing for the base slab plus pegs to hold it in place and screws (readily available from a hardware store - the instructions give you the details for purchasing and cutting)
  • Builders mix and cement to make up the base slab, fill the blocks and make the top slab (approximately 1.3 cubic meter so 2-3 trailer loads (should be about $250 worth and available from local landscape yards and some building merchants)
  • Some base course material to create a solid bed for the base concrete pad to be poured on (approximately 0.13 cubic meter which will be about $25)
  • As well as digging and concreting tools a small angle grinder, level, drill (any is fine), tape measure, square, pencil, standard pliers and a socket set

There is a fair bit for us to put together in these kits so the lead time is approximately 5 working days (i.e. give us time to do the hard work for you!).

We also have plastering kits available for the stand to make them even prettier.
