Refractory Mortar Mix, 20kg Pail (for casting into or over moulds)
Fire Mortar Mix has the potential to withstand temperatures of up to 1500 degrees Celsius! Waaaay hotter than you would ever run an oven or fire place.
It is the ideal material to use to construct parts of your oven or fire place that might be a bit tricky with fire bricks or more suited to a continuous look. Perfect for the top of pizza oven domes.
This is a very good quality NZ made product.
Mixed with water, the mortar is easy to work over a cardboard mould or can be placed like concrete to mould various parts.
It can also be used as mortar between fire bricks or to repair fire bricks.
It has a very low shrinkage rate and very high compression strength making it an ideal product to use in ovens and fireplaces.
The mix has high temperature fibres added to give it additional strength and help reduce plastic cracking during construction.
Sets in 1-2 hours and has a rapid curing time. Whilst it cures fast, it still needs time to cure out before firing (approx 10 days) and must be heated slowly to expel excess moisture before being put to full use.
Compression strength is 53MPA after three days and 70MPA after 28 days. (Average driveway concrete is 20-25MPA so this stuff is incredible!)
If you are using it with fire bricks, to ensure proper adhesion, the bricks need to be dampened first either by soaking the bricks in water or spraying the surface of the brick immediately before application.
Remember to always allow for heat expansion of materials in your design. Don't lock products in tightly.
Freight: It comes in a handy 20kg pail, so it can be sent via standard courier. For larger amounts the 30kg bags are also available in the shop. The price is the same because of the plastic pail price but the freight for the 20kg pail will be cheaper than for the 30kg bags.
